Notes on POST CRYPT- From 1995 through 2005, I served as the Horror Editor of the late great fiction e-zine, THE WRITER’S HOOD. It was during this period of time, I began to write some short stories in the spirit of collegial competition with our contributing writers. Little did I know what great fun I would have working in the short form. These stories, first published at The Writer’s Hood, are collected in, and form the backbone, of POST CRYPT.
The heart of POST CRYPT, however, is the novella, FAUNA.
In November of 2001 I moved to the Hudson Valley of New York State. The psychic damage done by 9/11 was just beginning to set in. Mired in a particularly melancholy mood, I watched the seasons change from within my now seemingly fragile glass house deep in the woods. Winter was heralded by mercurial thunderstorms followed by fierce snow squalls. During one such storm, I hurried to secure my front door against the wind. When I got to the open door, scarcely ten feet away at the end of my deck bridge stood a huge buck with enormous majestic antlers. It was like a spiritual invitation. FAUNA practically wrote itself. 240 pages, 16 illustrations.
